ECL (Eastern Car Liner)'s 17K Heavy-Lift Cargo Vessel Built by Honda Heavy Industries Successfully Delivered with SMS-SME Hatch Covers

The newly built heavy-lift cargo vessel "GIGA TRANS," constructed by Saiki Shipyard/Honda Heavy Industries in Japan and delivered to Eastern Car Liner (ECL), has officially entered commercial service.

The vessel was designed and built by ECL to strengthen its competitiveness in the global project cargo market and to further differentiate its specialized services. Featuring a structure optimized for the transportation of ultra-large and heavy cargo, the vessel represents a significant advancement in heavy cargo logistics.

SMS-SME successfully designed, manufactured, and supplied the Weather Deck Hatch Covers and Tween Deck Hatch Covers, which play a critical role in the loading and securing of heavy cargo. Through the successful completion of this project, SMS-SME has once again demonstrated its advanced engineering capabilities and technical expertise in the specialized hatch cover sector for heavy-lift vessels.

In particular, the combination of the Folding-type Hatch Cover installed on the Weather Deck and the multi-panel Lift-away Type Hatch Cover has been optimized to accommodate a wide range of cargo types. Furthermore, to maximize operational efficiency, a system was incorporated that allows the Lift-away Hatch Covers to be operated either individually or in conjunction with the Folding Hatch Cover, enabling more flexible and efficient cargo handling operations.
